John Smarz

John Smarz, 89, of Plainfield Township, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014; he was surrounded by his family. Born in Bayonne, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Susan Smarz and the loving husband of Lucy (Fronczak) Smarz; they were married 62 years.

John was a 1950 graduate of Montana State University where he earned his B.S. in Industrial Engineering. He was employed by Picatinny Arsenal. He honorably served during WWII in the Army Air Force and was a member SS Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. He was also an avid gardener.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lucy; sons, Stephen, and John P. & wife, Barbara; daughter, Carolyn Relyea; granddaughter, Kimberley Relyea; and sister, Mary Stachelski. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard.

Viewing hours will be held in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, on Tuesday Jan. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. with Panachida at 9 a.m. A 10 a.m. Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy will follow in the SS Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 1140 Johnston Dr. Bethlehem, 18017. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Kidney Foundation, 111 S. Independence Mall, E. Ste 411, The Philadelphia Bourse Blg., Philadelphia, PA 19106
