John T. Geldon, 91, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2006, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bethlehem on May 15, 1915, he was the son of the late Frank, Sr. and Helen Sumera Geldon. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Lipka Geldon, they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past May.
He worked at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 42 years before retiring in 1977. He was an avid carpenter and craftsman who, along with his father and brothers, built his own home where he and his wife lived for 57 years. He also took great pride in the cabinets, toys and grandfather clocks he made for his family. He was proud of his Polish heritage and remained true to his families traditions and values.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he was a past member of the Holy Name Society. John was a kind, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be sadly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, daughters, Elaine, and her husband Neal Lamana of Bethlehem, Jean, and her husband Jack Sobota of Bethlehem Twp.; granddaughter, Lisa Anne Lamana Lauer & her husband Jim of Fountain Hill; grandsons, John Lamana & his wife June of Bethlehem; Michael Sobota & his wife Allison of Mountville; Jonathan T. Sobota of Bethlehem Twp.; great-granddaughter, Taylor Anne Lamana, brothers, Frank Geldon, Jr. of Rochester, N.Y.; Joseph Geldon of Bethlehem; and his granddog, Pita.
He was preceded in death by, his sister, Helen Dozer and a brother, Walter, a 2nd Battalion Ranger who was killed on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
Services: A Funeral Service will be held, Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 9 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church 429 Hayes St. Bethlehem.
Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2006 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday from
8-9 a.m. both in the funeral home. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DeSales University, 2755 Station Ave., Center Valley, PA 18034.
