John V. Dolak, 87, of Bethlehem, formerly of Park Hall, Maryland, died on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Fountain Hill. He was born in Bethlehem, the son of the late Victor and Anna (Straka) Dolak.
John worked as a bartender for 50 years at The Roost in Lexington Park, Maryland, near the Patuxent Naval Air Base, that was the most popular and celebrated bar and restaurant in the area. Among its many patrons was astronaut Alan Shepard.
John served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1944 to 1947. He was a graduate of St. Marys College in St. Marys City, Maryland. Uncle J was always the life of the party, and always made sure everyone had a good time.
John will be lovingly remembered by his fraternal twin sister, Elizabeth Holzman, of Bethlehem; his niece, Cynthia Biedenkopf of Bethlehem; and his nephew, Briant C. Holzman of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary, Helen, Anna and Barbara and his brother, Stephen Dolak.
Services: Wednesday, December 11, 2013 visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem. At 10:00 a.m. there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish, 617 Pierce St., Bethlehem, PA 18015. Burial will follow at SS. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, in Bethlehem.
