Joseph A. Ammend, 100, of Bethlehem, died Friday November 3, 2006 at St. Luke?s Hospital, Bethlehem. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances Knies Ammend.Joseph was the former Alderman of Bethlehem?s 2nd Ward for many years. He served as the Superintendent of Streets for the city of Bethlehem and retired from the position of the Superintendent of Maintenance for Gracedale County Home, Nazareth.He is survived by: sons, Robert J. and wife Joan M. of Union, N.J., and Joseph A. Jr. and wife Kathy M. of Bethlehem; daughter, Marcee A. Beilstein and husband James R. of Williamsburg, VA; sisters, Margaret Seaman and Frances Reinert both of Bethlehem; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: brothers, Steve, Frank and Henry; sisters, Anna Ammend and Mary Mumma.Arrangements are being handled by Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St, Bethlehem where a visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday November 5th. A funeral service will follow, in the funeral home, beginning at 7 p.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in honor of Joseph to a charity of ones choice.
