Joseph A. Cavote

November 26, 1926 — June 23, 2014

Joseph A. “Blackie” Cavote, 87, of Bethlehem died on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Hospice House of St. Lukes. He was born in Bethlehem, son of the late Michael and Lucy (Caruso) Cavote. Joseph was the loving husband of 61 years to Marie B. (Begany) Cavote. Joseph proudly served his country in the US Naval Air Corps during World War II as an Aviation Radioman and tail gunner. Upon his return home, he began his career at the Bethlehem Steel Corp.; where he worked as a screw down operator in the 48 inch Rolling Mill for 39 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, Joseph worked at Lehigh University Mountaintop Campus and the Jewish Community Center in Allentown. He was a member of the U.S.W.A. Local 2599. Joseph was a long time member of the Incarnation of Our Lord Parish, a member of the National Sokols, Catholic Sokols, Knights of Columbus, Panthers A.A. and St. Bernards RC Beneficial where he was part of the St. Bernards Society. Joseph was also a little league coach for many years.

Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Joseph R. and wife, Bonnie and Michael and wife, Dorsey, all of Allentown; daughters, Marie Silfies and husband, Jef of Emmaus and Concetta Dias and husband, Thomas of Bethlehem Twp. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as his sister, Lucille Resetar of Bethlehem.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 where a viewing will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 8 to 10:15 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Memorials can be made to American Heart Assoc. 968 Postal Road, Suite 110, Allentown, PA 18109.
