Joseph Alex Baksa

Joseph A. Baksa, 93, of Bethlehem died on Friday April 18, 2008 at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

He was born on October 18, 1914, the son of the late Lajos and Erzsebet Szegedi Baksa.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Mary R. Horvath Baksa.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Battery C 213th Coast Artillery and Civilian Conservation Corps.

Joseph retired in 1976, after 41 years at the Bethlehem Steel Co. as a Crane Operator in #3 and #1 Open Hearth. He also worked part-time with the Bethlehem Twp. Police Department and volunteered as an auxiliary fireman and paramedic.

Joseph was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Miller Heights.

He was also a member of USWA Local 2598 and the Steel City Rod and Gun Club and was a founding member of the Little Helpers of Good St. Anne.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Julia, Joan, Joe, Margaret Mary, Michael, Dennis, Ronald, Christine, Timothy, Margie, Tommy and Louis, Jr.

Joseph was predeceased by his son, Joseph; brother, Louis and sisters, Vilma Cohen, Elizabeth Kawalski, Sophie Gettens and Mary Baksa; nieces, Mary Ann, Elizabeth and Edna and nephews, William and Allen.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2008 from 6-8 PM at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem and again on Wednesday April 23, 2008 from 8-9:30 AM in the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church First St., Miller Heights.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the church, 1817 1st St, Bethlehem PA 18020 or to the family c/o the funeral home to be applied towards a memorial tree in memory of Joseph.
