Joseph B. Mies

Joseph B. Mies, 75, of Bethlehem, died unexpectedly, on June 9, 2022. He was born September 13, 1946 in Bethlehem; son of the late Frank and Loretta (Lucas) Mies. Joe is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 48 years, Dolores R. (Morganello) Mies.

Joe will be lovingly remembered for his compassion and kindness. He found great joy in spending time with his family. Joe enjoyed watching and discussing sports; especially when it came to Central Catholic Basketball, University of Notre Dame Football, as well as the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Earlier in life, Joe had a great time traveling to wrestling matches with friends.

Joe was a 1964 graduate of Central Catholic High School and proudly served in the US Marine Corps Reserve during Vietnam. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. Joe worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 17 years prior to taking a position with the US Postal Service, where he worked for 23 years until his retirement.

Joe was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where he shared his talent as a singer in the choir. He was a member of the Jefferson Democratic Club, N.E. Wanderers A.A., North End Republican Club, St. Bernards Home of the Good Samaritans, and Heights A.A.

Joe will be dearly missed by his wife, Dolores; sons, Dan Mies and wife, Jaime, and Joe Mies; sister, Loretta Deutsch and husband, Bob, and Margaret Harris and husband Daniel; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Mies.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 9-11 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020. Interment will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
