Joseph F. Pagats

Joseph F. Pagats, 87, died on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Alexandria Manor in Nazareth. He was born on July 30, 1930 in Bethlehem Township to Michael and Anna (Mogocs) Pagats. He was the loving husband of the late Mary E. (Sommer) Pagats for 64 years prior to her passing in 2016.

Joe graduated from Bethlehem Vocational School in 1949 after which he served in the United States Navel Reserves. He worked at Hellertown Manufacturing Co. for 30 years as a toolmaker. He was very active in the UAW Local, having served as president for many years. After retirement, he served as President of the UAW Region 9 Retiree union.

Joe was a life-long Democrat who served the community of Bethlehem Township in many roles, first as an auditor then as a member of the Board of Commissioners. He also was a member of the Water and Sewer Authority. He believed that serving the community is a duty and did so with honesty and integrity.

Joe was a good athlete in his younger years, playing football for Liberty High School and in the Miller Heights Semi-Pro league. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling with many different leagues. He also rooted for his favorite teams, the Phillies and the Eagles.

Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Patricia Musselman and her husband Ronald of Bethlehem Township; grandchildren, Joseph Filaseta and his wife, Devin of Philadelphia, Susan Pearl and her husband Aaron of Northampton, Mary E. Musselman of Bethlehem Township and Lindsay A. Musselman of Norristown; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter Joan Marie Filaseta; brothers, Alex, John, Michael, Louis and James and sister, Ann Pocalyko.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family
