Joseph M. Spevak

Joseph M. Spevak, 94, of Bethlehem died Sunday May 30th, 2010 at Westminster Village in Allentown. He was the husband of the late Helen P. Lesko Spevak who died on December 4, 2009. He was the son of the late Andrew and Veronica Doddy Spevak.

Joseph was employed by Bethlehem Steel Company for 41 years retiring in 1978 as a welder in the rigger department. He was a member of Incarnation of Our Lord Parish Ss. Cyril & Methodius in Bethlehem. He was active in most sports playing football, baseball, basketball, swimming, and diving. He was an award winning gymnast participating with the Bethlehem Sokols. He was a member of the 1934 Liberty High School State Championship Football Team. As an adult he was an avid golfer and bowler winning numerous awards and competed into his 80's. He had been a member of CIO/AFL USW Union Local 2600.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Joseph J. Spevak and wife Lynda of Fleetwood, and Bruce Spevak of Allentown, daughters, Regina Guman wife of Patrick and Mercedes Lambert wife of Ronald both of Bethlehem, brother, Andrew Spevak of North Carolina, sisters, Anna Vanic wife of Cyril , Catherine Gerencsar , and Margaret Stangl all of Bethlehem. 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

Joseph was predeceased by brothers, Michael, John , George, and Francis, sisters, Mary Lazun, and Agnes Delgrosso, son Dennis Spevak, and a great grandson, Mitchell.

Services will be held 9:30AM Thursday June 3, 2010 at the Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18018 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10AM at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish 617 Pierce St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18015. Calling hour will be from 8:30- 9:30AM Thursday morning at the funeral home. Burial at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
