Josephine M. Benko

Josephine M. Benko, 88, of Bethlehem passed away on Friday January 1, 2016 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg Campus. She was born on February 4, 1927 in Bethlehem, daughter of the late Stephen and Helen (Kasenich) Barback. She was the wife of the late Rudolph E. Benko. Josephine worked as a sewing machine operator at Chickadee Mfg. Co. and Champion Spark Plug for 2 years. She taught cooking at the Bethlehem Girls Club. Josephine was a former member of St. Johns Capistrano Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Notre Dame Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Slovak Sokols.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Rudy E. Benko Jr. husband of Judith of Bethlehem, and Stephen G. Benko husband of Mary Beth of Westminster, Md., daughters, Carol Ann Benko-Meyer of Portage, IN, and Rebecca Jones wife of Chris of Bethlehem, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Peter Barback and Stephen Barback, sisters, Anna Krajci, Helen Posavek, Rose Svajko, Mary Zebrowski, and Theresa Sandor, and son in law Charles Meyer.

A viewing will be held on Monday January 4, 2016 from 6 -8p.m. and Tuesday January 5, 2016 from 10:15-11:15a.m. at the Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18018 A prayer service will be held 11:15a.m. Tuesday morning at the Connell Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 12 noon at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish 617 Pierce St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18015.
