Julius M. Herz

Dr. Julius M. Herz, PhD., 95 of Riegelsville, PA died in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Vienna, Austria he was the son of the late Michael and Maria Herz. He was married to Anna (Pirscenok) Herz for 47 years until her death on July 2, 2013.

Dr. Herz lived a modest and simple life, and was a self-made man. As a younger man in Vienna he was in the Austrian Resistance fighting the Nazis. He also swam across the Danube River. When he came to America he educated himself and eventually ended up becoming a German Language Professor at several Universities in the US, but eventually ended up at Temple University. On June 5, 1966, Dr. Herz married the love of his life, Anna Pirscenok, who was a language professor at Lehigh University, and together they would share their work and help each other. He also was the co-author of Franz Kafka. He also raised sheep, collected stamps, and along with his wife they liked to have guests to their home and thoroughly enjoyed international travel.

Dr. Herz is survived by a large family of dear friends and a nephew, Dr. Thomas Weida and family.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 10 at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 2-4 PM. Masks will be required for the viewing. A private burial will take place where he will be laid to rest next to his wife at Union Cemetery of Hellertown.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Herzs name to the charity of ones choice.
