Katherine V. Spagnola

Katherine V. Spagnola, 94, of Bethlehem, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday November 9, 2023, surrounded by family. Born on April 8, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Marion DelGrosso Viglione and John Viglione and the loving wife of the very lucky Sam Spagnola for 61 years.

Kathy worked at Moravian Seminary for Girls/Moravian Academy for over 30 years. She cherished her lifelong bonds forged with faculty, administrators, and particularly students, many of whom sought her comfort and counsel before facing the principal. She was a Notre Dame of Bethlehem parishioner for over 60 years, and a member of the 55+ Club for decades.

Valedictorian of the Bangor High School Class of 1947, Kathy attended the Wood School Business College in New York City. Upon graduation, the J Walter Thompson Ad Agency hired her on to their award-winning Kodak Photography account. Kathy adored the big City, commuting from Brooklyn where she lived with her beloved Aunt Grace and Uncle Chris D’Avanzo.

The only thing Kathy loved more than her independent life in New York City was Sam Spagnola. They fell in love and in 1953 married in Roseto, PA. Kathy returned to Pennsylvania to raise three wild and crazy boys: her husband and two sons.

Kathy is lovingly remembered by her sons, Larry and John Spagnola, her granddaughters, Nicole, Megan and Kelly Spagnola, her sister, Lorraine DeNadai and children, Susan Sanderl and David DeNadai, and all her wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her selflessness, devout faith, incredible work ethic, and capacity to love unconditionally are a source of inspiration for all who knew and loved her.

Calling will be held at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church on Tuesday, November 14, from 10-11 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Notre Dame Parish or Moravian Academy.
