Dr. Leon J.McGeady

Dr. Leon J. McGeady of Bethlehem died on Friday, January 28th , 2011. He was born in Freemansburg, the son of the late Elda Smock McGeady and Gerald J. McGeady. He received his B.S., M.S. and PhD. in Metallurgical Engineering in 1943, 1946 and 1950 respectively from Lehigh University. He served on the faculty of Lafayette College from 1949 through 1986 in the positions of Professor and then Head of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and finally as Director of Lafayette's Engineering Department.

In recommending him for appointment to the latter position, Lafayette?s President and a specially-appointed faculty committee said: ?Dr. McGeady

has a reputation as an excellent teacher and scholar and has long been considered a leader in the faculty among whom he is highly respected for his wisdom and judgment.? After his retirement from the faculty in 1986, the trustees of Lafayette College twice enlisted Dr. McGeady?s leadership in the selection and

recruitment of a President of the College. Dr.McGeady thus served as Presidential Search Coordinator for the Board of Trustees in 1989-1990 and

again in 1993-1994. He was a parishioner of St. Anne?s Catholic Church, Bethlehem, and served

for many years as Chairman of the Bethlehem Zoning Board.

Survivors: Leon, ?Mac?, McGeady will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Anne Peters McGeady and their six children, Thomas J. McGeady,

Mary Lou Cutler, Patricia A. Geneczko, Lee J. McGeady, Anne M. Drachbar and David G. McGeady together with their respective spouses, a brother James W. McGeady of Bethlehem, a sister Jeanette Kolb of Palmer Township, eighteen grand-children, and two great grand-children. All will remember him for

his devotion to his wife, his love for his family, his encompassing integrity and his warm and keen sense of humor.

Services: Friends may call on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, from 10:30-11:30 AM in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 East Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018

followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm at St. Anne?s Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18017.

Internment will follow Mass at Holy Savior Mausoleum.
