Leonard J. Hudak

June 19, 1927 — March 17, 2010

Leonard J. Hudak, son of the late George and Eva Goralski Hudak, born in Nanticoke, PA; passed away on March 17, 2010 at the age of 82. He married his wife, Mary "Dottie" Senar Hudak, on November 5, 1949 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

They resided in Bethlehem Twp.

They had five children; Susan, wife of James O'Brien, Barbara, wife of Joseph DeFranco, son, Kenneth Hudak and his wife, Kristin, Michael Hudak and his wife, Kathy, and Doreen, wife of Fred Baranowski. They have 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and are very proud of them all. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Jr., and Joseph and sister, Teresa Cuss.

Since 1961, he had been very active in his community. He served as a volunteer ambulance member from 1961-1971 and worked as a tractor-trailer driver as a member of Teamsters 773 until his accident in 1971 left him paraplegic.

He then served as a volunteer police dispatcher for eight years. In the late 1970s and early 1980s he was an auditor. In the early 1970s, he served as a volunteer Municipal Authority Board Member; and in 1990 he began a three-term service as a volunteer Bethlehem Township Commissioner. Prior to his death, he was serving again as a volunteer Municipal Authority Member.

He is a World War II Naval veteran serving in the South Pacific on the ships Reuban James DE 153 and the West Point AP 23.

He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on First St., the Democratic Club, VFW Veterans of Foreign Wars Club in Hellertown, and American Legion in Hellertown.

Services: A Service will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1817 First St. Bethlehem, PA 18020.
