Louis Anthony “Tony” Hancock, 81, of Bethlehem, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023 at his home.
Born on August 18, 1941, in Roanoke, VA, he was the son of the late Hazel (Smith) and Rolfe Louis “Luke” Hancock. Tony was raised in Roanoke VA where he attended Jefferson High School and met his late wife, Gayle.
Tony received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Military Institute in 1963. He was also proud to achieve being an Eagle Scout in his younger years. Tony joined Bethlehem Steel in 1963 as a member of the loop course management training program and was assigned to executive sales. He served in the United States Army for two years, reaching the rank of Second Lieutenant and returned to the steel in 1966. His career with Bethlehem Steel had Tony working in Bethlehem, Pittsburgh and Detroit. After leaving Bethlehem Steel, Tony continued his career in the steel industry until his retirement in 2013.
His various enjoyments included golfing, cooking, and barbecuing. Above all Tony will be remembered for the unconditional love he had for his late wife, Gayle and his children and grandchildren. He was very supportive of all of their accomplishments throughout life and they will all miss him dearly.
Tony will be lovingly remembered by his three children, Louis Anthony “Andy” Hancock (Rachael), Keith O. Hancock (Darlene), and Kathryn H. Kashner (Jack); and his four grandchildren, Ellen, Cameron and Casey Kashner and Bayden Hancock.
In addition to his parents, Tony is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Gayle O. (Oakey) Hancock and his sister, Ellen Hancock-Ellwanger.
There will be a Celebration of Life to honor the lives of Louis “Tony” Hancock (1941-2023) and his beloved wife, Gayle (Oakey) Hancock (1941-2020) on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at SteelStacks Blast Furnace 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
