Louis J. Romanell, 87, of Freemansburg died on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
He was born September 3, 1924 in Tresckow, PA; son of the late Joseph and Carmella (Mente) Romanell. Louis is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Louise E. (Hussar) Romanell.
During WWII, Louis proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps. He worked in the Coke Works of the Bethlehem Steel Corp. and later retired from the US Postal Service. Louis was a member of NALC, NAPS and NARFE and was treasurer for the local union.
Louis was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
He was a member of the St. Bernard's, Fountain Hill Democratic Club, Young Men's Assoc., Heights A.A., Fearless Fire Co., Fullerton Vol. Fire Co., American Legion of Freemansburg and TPA.
Louis was also a judge of elections and assisted with voter registration in Freemansburg for many years. He was a bowling and shuffleboard champion and enjoyed softball, golf and playing poker.
Louis was instrumental in helping to develop the fields for the Freemansburg Bethlehem Twp. Athletic Assoc.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife; daughter, Anita L. Rutt-Guerriere and her husband Gordon of Bethlehem; son, Lawrence "Jake" Romanell and his wife, Joanne of New Market, MD; five grandchildren, Angela, Louis, Valerie, Gina and Michael and three great grandchildren, Madeline, Mason and Sheldon. Louis will also be dearly missed by his sisters, Rose Billett, Carolyn Romanell and Mildred Domin; his brothers, Michael Romanelli and Joseph Romanell and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Christine, Marie and Teresa and his brothers, Michael, Carmen, Charles, Salvadore, and Maurice.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 6-8 PM at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018.
Another viewing will be held on Monday from 9-9:45 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 AM in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lou's name to Phoebe Allentown, 1925 Turner St. Allentown, PA 18104 and/ or to St. Luke's Hospice 1510 Valley Center Parkway Suite 200 Bethlehem, PA 18017.
