Louis R. Hoffman, 95, of Bethlehem, died on Thursday, December 20, 2012. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Amos Hoffman and LeClaire (Gowans) Alger. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann (Simone) Hoffman of Bethlehem; daughter, Anne Stachina and husband, Jim of Bethlehem; sons, Michael and wife, Karen McKenzie of Jupiter, FL and Peter and wife, Leslie of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Kristen and Matthew Stachina, and Alexandria and Samantha Hoffman. He will be missed and lovingly remembered.
Louis served in the Merchant Marine for 11 years, including service in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War II. At 26 years of age, he was one of the youngest ship's captains in the Merchant Marine. He later earned his Master's degree in Economics from the University of Tennessee and then was a faculty member at the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he taught Economics and Transportation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, where a funeral service will be held on Friday December 28th at 1 p.m. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to service. Interment will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Red Cross.
