Luis I. Torres, 94, formerly of East 3rd St. Bethlehem, PA died Tuesday, January 15, 2013. He was born November 18, 1918 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico; son of the late Geraldo Torres and Luisa (Colon) Benetiz. Luis was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Margarita Torres de Ortiz.
He worked in the Beam Yard for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. and was a member of the United Steelworkers, Local 2599.
Luis will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Peggy DeLong and her husband, Terry, of Parker, CO; Evelyn Belzner and her husband, Stephen, of Jim Thorpe, PA; Mary Torres of Columbia, SC and Patricia Cuevas and her husband, Rafael, of Bethlehem, PA. He will also be dearly missed by his 12 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren; his sisters Josefina Vega; Coli Torres and Ada Irma and his brother, Domingo Hiran. Luis was preceded in death by his daughter, Geraldin, sons, Luis Anthony and Humberto Torres; sisters Ana Vicenta Malavez and Alicia Torres as well as his brother, Efrain.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 21, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A ceremony will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
