It is with a heavy and grateful heart that we celebrate the life of Luke P. Cunningham, 88, who passed away unexpectedly on October 24, 2024 in Estero, FL. Born on March 25, 1936 in Bethlehem, PA, Luke was the son of the late Luke T. and Barbara (Trabel) Cunningham. He was the loving and devoted husband of Christine Cunningham. Luke is a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School and Keystone Junior College. Luke dedicated his entire career to the Cunningham family business, West Side Electrical Service, which was purchased by his father in 1935. Together with his sons, he merged with RL Hammer Electric to form West Side Hammer Electric.
Luke was a member of the board of directors of the Penn-Del-Jersey chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), also serving as governor. He was a member and past president of the Bethlehem Rotary Club, the board of directors of Lehigh Valley Industrial Park (LVIP), board of directors of New Bethany Ministries, trustee advisory board and former vice president of the Blue Heron Home Owners Association, past president of the Winding Stream Homeowners Association, and past president of the Whisper Creek Homeowners Association. Luke was also a board member of the Spring Run Charitable Foundation for twelve years, which was near and dear to his heart.
Luke will be dearly missed by his cherished wife, Christine; children Lucille Palangio (Thomas), Luke R. Cunningham (Dona), Linda Galliher (Mick), Lisa Swingle (Paul), Lora Fondl (Robert), Lee Cunningham (Gail); stepchildren Michael Trapp (Sue), Linda Reese (Joseph), Susan Szilagyi (Jeff), Carol Trapp, and William Trapp (Tracy); and his brother, Michael Cunningham (Jeanie). Luke was very proud of his 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Joseph Cunningham, and sister Barbara Breiner.
Luke had a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, family, and cherished friendships, both in Florida and Bethlehem. His legacy of compassion, leadership, and service to others will forever inspire those who knew him.
Services: Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 5-8PM at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 730 West Broad Street in Bethlehem.
