Luz Maria Velazquez

Luz Maria Velazquez, 76, of Bethlehem, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

Born on May 23, 1946, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Maria Ortiz and Martin Velazquez.

Luz attended the University of Turabo in Puerto Rico and finished her masters degree at Penn State University in her 50s. She began her teaching career in Puerto Rico and was the only teacher who taught bilingual. Luz also went on to teach in Texas and in Bethlehem. Teaching was her passion; she truly made an impact on every student who came through her classroom. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching sports, most of all, wrestling matches.

Luz will be dearly missed by her son, Joseph Gonzalez and his fianc, Zoe Romero; brothers, Joseph and Robert Velazquez; sister, Rosie Velazquez; two grandchildren, Yaritza and Joseph Gonzalez; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 1-3:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 with a funeral service beginning at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Inurnment will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.

In lieu of flowers, donations towards Luzs funeral expenses may be sent to Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018.
