Magdalena F. Szabo, 79, of Bethlehem died Thursday December 13, 2007 at VNA Hospice of St. Lukes. She was the daughter of the late John and Magdalena Szime Szabo

Magdalena began working as a teenager for Young Folks Bazaar. She worked for Peoples Bank, Roller-Smith , and Bethlehem Contracting Co. as an executive secretary. She served on the Bethlehem School Board for 8 years and was Chairman of Mayor Kenneth Smith?s South Side Task Force. She was appointed to City Council to finish Donald Cunnigham?s term when he became Mayor of Bethlehem. She ran for re-election and served for 2 terms. She served on the following committees; Community Development , Human Resources and Enviroment and was the Chair from 1998-2001, Public Works Committee and was the Chair from 2002-2003, Parks and Public Property and Public Safety, and the Community Development Committee and was the Chair from 2004-2007.

Magdalena was currently a city councilwoman whose term was to expire on December 31st. She was very instrumental in having the Sands Casino come to Bethlehem. She was also currently on the board of South Bethlehem?s Historical Society, member of the downtown Bethlehem Association, and was a great supporter of the community police department. .

She was very active in the Girl Scouts and started the first troop in South Terrace and also had a troop at St. Johns Capistrano Catholic Church in Bethlehem. She enjoyed extensive travel throughout the world visiting countries such as Tibet, Yemen, Burma, Jordan, China, and other countries.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Louise Valeriano of Bethlehem and numerous cousins.

Services will be held on Monday December 17, 2007 at 11AM at the Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18018 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11:30AM at St. Johns Capistrano Catholic Church 912 E. 4th St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18015. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3-7PM and Monday from 10-11AM at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem
