Marcella C. Sharkan

November 2, 1924 — May 10, 2012

Marcella C. Sharkan, 87, of Bethlehem passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown's Holy Family Manor of Bethlehem.

She was born November 2, 1924; daughter of the late Urban and Marcella (McFadden) O'Donnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G. Sharkan in June of 2009.

Marcella was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish. She graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School in the early 40s, and then worked at Warner's Drug Store and at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation--working on test data for the war effort before marrying. After the war she worked diligently as a mother, wife, all the while with continuous support for all of her large family in every way possible.

Marcella dedicated her life to family and will be forever remembered by her son Joseph W. and his wife Marian of Bethlehem; Susan Sharkan-Abud and her husband Jose of Bethlehem; and her son William G. of Northampton; her six grandchildren: Ariana Abud Johnsen and husband David, Sophia Marcella, Sarah Rotonda and husband Matt, Adam and wife Rachel, Noah and Isaac and three great grandchildren; Evelyn, Zo and Lily.

Marcella was one of 16 children. She will forever be remembered by her brothers: the Rev. Fr. William J. O'Donnell of Bethlehem; Francis O'Donnell husband of Barbara of Alburtis; and her sisters: Sister St. Urban, S.S.J. of Flourtown, Kathleen O'Donnell and her daughters Paula and Theresa; and her dedicated sister Theresa Donchez wife of Stephen all of Bethlehem; as well as her brother and sister-in- law Dr. William W. Sharkan and wife Phyllis of Allentown. She will also be missed by her other family at Holy Family Manor--the entire staff that took great care of her for the past four years, and most especially her best friends nurse Patty and Father Cliff. The Sharkan family wishes to express their love and appreciation to all. We thank you.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Urban, Jack, Joseph, James, Michael, Thomas, and Anthony, and sisters; Mary, Patricia, Lucy, and her sister-in-laws Barbara, Dorothy and Leona and her brother-in-law, Geza-and most recently and tragically by her wonderful grandson, Aaron A. Abud in September of 2010.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018.

Holy Mass will be held Wednesday at 12:30 PM at the Holy Family Manor Chapel 1200 Spring St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 as a Mass of Christian Burial. A viewing will be held before Mass begins from 11:30AM-12:30PM in the chapel.
