Marcial Matos, 90, of Fountain Hill, passed away on March 31, 2023, with his wife by his side. He was born on February 16, 1933, in Villalba, Puerto Rico to parents, Marcial and Isabel Matos. Marcial is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Aida Maria Matos. The two made wonderful memories together, including 20 years of life living in Deltona, FL, where they made many friends.
Upon moving back to the Lehigh Valley, he and Aida lived with their son, Elliot, for 10 years. The entire Matos family will be forever grateful to Elliot and his family for the daily companionship, assistance, and care they provided to Marcial and Aida.
Marcial will be lovingly remembered as a strong, hardworking, and complex man. Faith and family were extremely important to Marcial. He was brave and unafraid when he decided to travel to the mainland. As the patriarch of the family, he assisted several other family members venture to the mainland as well. Marcial was a parishioner of Holy Infancy Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Marriage Encounter team, past president of the Holy Name Society, and member of the Cursillo movement. He also served as past president of the Spanish Council Political Committee and volunteered as the vice president and manager at South Side Little League for over 25 years. He is also credited with founding the South Side Legion baseball team. Marcial retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, where he dutifully served as a plant patrolman.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Aida; children, Isabel Lopez and husband, Guillermo, Mildred Castillo and husband, John, Fernando Matos and wife, DeAnne, Elliot Matos and wife, Lillian, Arnold Matos and wife, Victoria, Geraldo Matos and wife, Jennifer, and Nancy Matos Gonzalez and husband, Fernando; 20 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren; and siblings, Julio Matos, Jorge Matos, Ivan Matos, Roberto Matos, and Minerva Cintron. Marcial was preceded in death by his son, Marcial Matos, sister, Ana Diaz, and brothers, Arminio and Luis Matos.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at Holy Infancy Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 9-10 a.m. immediately followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
