Margaret (Peg) Race Thistle, 84, of Nazareth, PA, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Moravian Hall Square, surrounded by her three children.
Peg was the loving and devoted wife of Raymond A. Thistle, Jr. for 46 years before he passed away in 2000. Born in Schenectady, NY on July 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Hubert H. Race and Grace (Morris) Race. She received her B.A. Degree from Marietta College in Ohio and was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. She spent most of her adult life living in Huntingdon Valley, PA where she was devoted to raising her children and was active in the Mothers Club, Womens Club, the Valley Swim Club, PTA and United Methodist Church. She served as her husbands legal secretary for 23 years in Jenkintown, PA until his death. In 2004, she moved to Moravian Hall Square and made many dear friends there. Peg was of the Methodist faith, and enjoyed singing, swimming, spending time at her beloved childhood “camp” on Galway Lake in New York State, as well as bowling, knitting and needlework in her younger years. Her family of three children and nine grandchildren were her pride and joy.
In addition to her husband and parents, Peg was predeceased by her sister, Barbara R. Weber in 2010. She is survived by her loving children who will miss her dearly, a daughter, Gail (Thistle) Rold and her husband, Paul Rold of Bethlehem, PA; sons, Scott R. Thistle and his wife, Karen (Dahl) Thistle of Wexford, PA; and Mark R. Thistle and his wife, Melissa (Beyer) Thistle of Columbia, MD. She is also survived by a brother, Robert W. Race and his wife, Irma of Pittsfield, MA; nine grandchildren, Kevin, Natalie, Steven, Ginny, Peter, David, Ben, Noah, and Grace; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Kortz Hall, Moravian Hall Square, 175 W. North St., Nazareth, PA. Following the services until 3 pm in Kortz Hall, all are welcomed to visit with the family in a time of remembrance and celebration of Pegs life. Interment in Greater Philadelphia will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Inc. Bethlehem, PA.
