Maria A. Korczewyj

Maria A. Korczewyj, 90, of Bethlehem, died on Monday, March 30, 2015 at her residence. She was born February 20, 1925 in Roliv, Lviv Region in Ukraine; daughter of the late Ivan and Anna Paraszczak. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Nestor Korczewyj. Maria retired as a sewing machine operator after 17 years. She worked for the Muriel Dress Co. and Laros Silk Mill. She is a member of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for 33 years. Maria was past president in 1970, 1973 and 1974 of the Ukrainian National Womens League of America Branch 91 and she also volunteered for the American Cancer Society. Maria loved to travel; especially with her husband, and was proud to return to Ukraine 10 times. Maria will be remembered for her kindness, strength and generosity.

Maria will be dearly missed by her local family, who thought of her like a mother; niece and care giver Olesia Czap with whom she resided; Ann M. Yost; nephews, Bogdan and Mark Paraszczak and her great nephew who she treated as a grandson, John Czap; as well as great nieces and nephews and great-great nephews. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews in Europe. Maria was preceded in death by her three sisters and three brothers.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 (TONIGHT) at The Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 7-9 p.m. Office of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1826 Kenmore Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will follow at St. Josaphat Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or UNWLA Branch 91.
