Maria Castro

Maria Castro, 93, of Bethlehem Township, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on May 20, 1931, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Pedro Olmeda Tirado and Antonia Ubiles Rivera.

Maria grew up in Puerto Rico and was a chef for many years in different restaurants-cooking was something that brought her great joy, whether it was for simple family get togethers or large gatherings. She also enjoyed listening to music and dancing. Maria was raised catholic, she would pray the rosary faithfully every day after the passing of her husband, Ocasio. Above all, Maria loved her family-especially her children and grandchildren, she was a tremendous homemaker and she will be missed by all of those who loved and adored her.

Maria will be lovingly remembered by her six children, Elba Caban and her husband, Jose, of Bethlehem, Zoraida Knight, of Bethlehem, Marta Meza, of Bethlehem, Fernando Cruz and his wife, Connie, of Bethlehem, Laura Conde, of Bethlehem Township, and Alma Cruz, of Bethlehem; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Ocasio Castro; grandson, Luis Knight; and great-granddaughter, Letisha Knight.

Services will be held privately.
