Mary Ann M. Ackerman

Mary Ann M. Ackerman, 87, a life-long resident of Bethlehem, died on Monday, July 14, 2014 at St. Lukes Hospice House in Lower Saucon Twp. She was the daughter of the late Stephen G. and Mary O. (Klepper) Fecko; and the devoted wife to Richard T. Ackerman, Sr. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary before he passed away in 1997. Mary Ann graduated from St. Cyril Academy in Danville, PA and was employed by B. Braun (Burron Medical), Connell Funeral Home, Inc., Glenn E. Moyer, M.D. She was Honorary Vice President and life-long member of the Ladies Pennsylvania Slovak Catholic Union. (LPSCU), National Vice-President for 24 years, financial secretary for branch 83 for 50 years, and founding officer of the LV District of LPSCU. Mary Ann was the recipient of the 2013 LPSCU and Pennsylvania Fraternal Alliance Fraternalist of the Year. She was a member of the Cardinal Tomko Chapter of Slovak Catholic Federation, Bethlehem Twp. Autumn Club, Ss. Simon and Jude Seniors and the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seniors. She was active in the Miss America Pageant and in various fund raisers, including Join Hands Day. In addition, Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, needlework, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was a parishioner of St. Annes Catholic Church.

Mary Ann will be lovingly remembered by her children, Richard T. Ackerman, Jr., Marilyn Geiger and husband, Craig, Annette Ackerman, Bernard Ackerman and wife, Carey; her grandchildren, Ricky Ackerman, Jennifer Wood, Doug Geiger, Jared, Colin and Elizabeth Ackerman; great-grandchildren, Cole and Chase Geiger, Hunter, Carson and Brayden Hardik; and her sisters, Bernadine Pringer, Barbara Bankowski and Ceil Garland. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ethel Ornosky.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Annes Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave., Bethlehem. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church and Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc., 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.

Memorial Contributions may be made to: St. Lukes Hospice or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
