Mary Domyan, 87, of Bethlehem died of natural causes on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at home. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Florian and Mary Koncir Sedlacek. Mary and her husband, the late Leonard J. Domyan, Sr. had celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 2002.
Mary was a long time member of SS. Simon & Jude Church in Bethlehem and of its Senior Citizen's Group. She was a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic H.S. 1941 and Sacred Heart School of Nursing 1944. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army Nursing Corps, attained the rank of Lieutenant and served during WWII in the Philippine's in the South Pacific. The tradition of serving our country in the military is proudly reflected in her children who have served in the Navy, the Marines and the Air Force. Mary was also a member of the American Legion Post # 470. She had worked as a nurse in several doctors offices in the Lehigh Valley, notably Dr. Leo Hastings and Dr. Dileo in Allentown and had also served as a nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Surviving are sons Leonard J., Jr. and wife Brenda of Kanab, Utah, Richard M. and wife Mary of Fleetwood, PA, Paul F. and wife Sandy of Elsmere, KY, Mark and wife Patricia of Wescosville, Christopher of Allentown; daughters MaryAnne, wife of Andrew Sedler of Bethlehem and Rosemary, wife of Alan Mayr of Deland, FL; sisters Stephanie Zukowski and Lillian Marks, both of Allentown. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She was predeceased by a grandson Nicholas McFarren and a sister Bernadine Dini.
Funeral services begin at 9:15am Friday, June 17, 2011 in Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, with prayers and a Light of Life Candle Lighting ceremony, followed at 10:00am by a Mass of Christian Burial at SS. Simon & Jude Church, 730 W. Broad St., Bethlehem. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 - 8pm and Friday from 8:30 - 9:15am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery.
