Mary J. Calvo

Mary J. Calvo, 91, of Bethlehem, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. She was born in Bethlehem, daughter of the late Michael and Marianne (Ricci) Ruggiero. She was the devoted wife of the late Augustine J. Calvo; they were married for 60 years. Mary worked for the city of Bethlehem as a secretary for Paul Troxell with the Bethlehem Recreation Dept. and then as a secretary for several Bethlehem Fire Commissioners. Mary was a charter member of the Young Matrons of the Y.W.C.A., former director of the Bethlehem Halloween Parade, Civil Defense Volunteer during WWII, and also volunteered much of her time to St. Lukes Hospital. She was a parishioner of St. Annes Catholic Church in Bethlehem.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Nancy Calvo-Solomon (Alan); grandchildren, Crisann Walls (Samuel), Michael Calvo, Timothy Solomon (Kelley), and Mathew Solomon (Kristen); great-grandchildren, Ryder, Cameron, Parker and Aquinnah Solomon; and daughter-in-law, Karen Calvo. She was preceded in death by her son, David Calvo and her granddaughter, Anne Solomon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Annes Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18017. Visitations will be held on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
