Mary Jo Steager

Mary Jo Steager, 82 of Bethlehem, died on Tuesday, September 04, 2018. She was born March 24, 1936 in Punxsutawney, PA; the daughter of the late John and Mary (Baran) Leszcynski. She was married to the late Richard C. Steager, Sr. for 56 years.

Mary Jo was a 1954 graduate of Liberty High School. She bowled for 40 years in several leagues and participated in state and national tournaments. Mary Jo was a former member and President of the Friendship Club, member of the Sassie Lassies Red Hat Group, a member of the Allentown and Bethlehem garden clubs, a member of the ETA Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Mary Jo was also a life member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church; where she was active in the Fellowship Club. She loved to travel. Mary Jo and her husband went on many cruises and covered all fifty states over the years. They enjoyed traveling to Spain and Africa as well. Mary Jo worked as a secretary at Birkel-Yaros Insurance Agency for several years.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Louise, wife of the late Richard C. Steager, Jr.; grandchildren, Jacob Steager and Tyler Steager; nieces, Marianne Haldaman, Betty Lou Kent, Mary Ellen Leszcynski, and Ellen Rhoads; nephews, Joseph Leszcynski and Michael Leszcynski; great-nieces, Kate Clase and Colleen Hoppe and numerous cousins.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Barabara Steager; son, Richard C. Steager, Jr., sister, Betty Kent and brothers, Joseph Richard Leszcynski, John Leszcynski, Jr. and Michael Ontko; niece, Barbara Kent and nephew, Bobby Kent.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Another visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
