Mary M. Chernaskey

Mary M. Chernaskey, 79, of Bethlehem, died on December 28, 2011. Born in Bethlehem on September 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Julia Medve Guzzo. She was the wife of the late Raymond Chernaskey who died in 2006, they were married 52 years. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church and a current member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bethlehem.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Raymond, Joseph and wife Diane, and Dennis "Dino"; daughters Pamela Opp and husband Jeffrey, and Catherine "Kitty" JeBran; grandchildren, Amy Gaven, Jeffrey and Robert Opp, Lauren, Leslie, Mary and Julie JeBran, and, Jenna, Tara, Matthew, Adam, Rachel and Ellen Chernaskey; great-grandchildren; Benjamin JeBran and James Gaven; and brother, Lawerence Guzzo and wife Sharon. She was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine "Bunny".

Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary loved to cook for her family and friends, everyone was welcome at her table. Mary was a good neighbor and was friendly to every passerby while sitting on her porch. She was proud of her experience as a Bethlehem Catholic cheerleader and swimmer, lifeguard at Saucon Park Pool, and her early employment at Lehigh University's finance department and later at Union Bank. Mary loved her flower garden, particularly her roses.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, where viewing hours will be held on Friday December 30th from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave. Bethlehem. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
