Mary M. Kenihan, 93 of Bethlehem, formerly Laurel, MD died Monday, April 24, 2017 at Holy Family Manor in Bethlehem. Born April 20, 1924 in White Haven, PA she was the daughter of the late John and Honore (Caffrey) Martini. She was married to Joseph G. Kenihan for 45 years until he passed away on July 5, 1993.
Mary was employed by various telephone companies as she traveled with her husband throughout the United States. During World War II, Mary was employed by Vultee Aircraft, Allentown, PA, assisting in the manufacture of planes for the U.S. war effort. After the war, she met and later married a man who flew a plane for the U.S. Army Air Force. Together Mary and her beloved Joe lived in Europe as Joe worked for the Dupont Company. Later he went to work for the U.S. Government in Washington D.C.
Mary was known by many and loved by all who knew her. She was generous, kind, loving, and pleasant. She was never known to say a mean word about anyone. She was a former member of St. Mary of the Mills Church, Laurel, MD. She devoted many hours to the Ladies of Charity, of which she was a member and at one time an officer. She volunteered her time and meal to LARS and other organizations. Mary also volunteered at Greater Laurel General Hospital, Laurel, MD, in the gift shop.
Mary is currently a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Bethlehem Township, PA.
Mary enjoyed playing scrabble, at which she was practically unbeatable, and doing crossword puzzles at which she was also very good. Mary enjoyed art classes in Laurel, MD. She was a fantastic hostess and marvelous cook as all who had the pleasure of dining with her and her beloved Joe knew. She opened her home to all family members and many other friends. She was a substitute Grammy for some of her neighbors children when they needed a ride or help of any kind.
Mary graduated from White Haven High School, White Haven, PA in 1941. Mary also attended post graduate classes at Liberty High School, Bethlehem, PA and Bethlehem Business College.
Marys family thanks the staff at Holy Family Manor for their tender, loving care of Mary while a resident there.
Many thanks also to the special nieces and nephews who also took loving care of their Aunt Mary.
Mary is survived by her sister, Anne Capuano of Bethlehem, brother, Thomas Martini of Nazareth, four generations of nieces and nephews and sisters in law, Camillus Eisele and Jean Kenahan. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Francis, Joseph and James Martini, sister, Honore Zettlemoyer, sister in law, Joyce H. Martini and brother in law, Leonard A. Capuano.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help 3219 Santee Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18020 from 10-11 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements Connell Funeral Home, Inc., Bethlehem, PA.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Marys name to the Ladies of Charity at St. Mary of the Mills Church, 114 St. Marys Place, Laurel, MD 20707.
