Mary M. Kovacs, 88, of Bethlehem, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at St.Lukes Hospital in Fountain Hill. Born August 3, 1917 in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy Gress Karabin. She was the loving wife of the late Blase Kovacs with whom she owned and operated Blase's Tavern in Bethlehem for 30 years. Mrs. Kovacs was a member of SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church of Bethlehem,
and their Senior Citizen's Club. She was a member of the National Sokols and an avid bowler in the Hall of Fame. She loved to cook for her family and friends and will be remembered as someone who "always had a smile for everyone. "
Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Johnson & husband William F. of Alexandria, VA, her brother, George Karabin of Bethlehem, sisters; Helen Fiala of Allentown, Bernice Wilk of Hellertown, grandchildren, Lisa, Jennifer & Chris, great-grandchildren, Samantha, Harry & Michael. She was preceded in death by: her son Richard Kovacs.
Services: A Prayer Service will be held, Monday, June 5, 2006 at 9:15 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church 617 Pierce St. Bethlehem.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 4, 2006 from 6-9 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church.
Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, in Bethlehem.
