It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Mary Patricia Walsh O'Hare, who went to be with the Lord on February 27, 2025 at the age of 84 with her loving family at her side. She was a devoted Catholic who loved the Lord.
Mary was born on September 26, 1940 in Easkey, Co. Sligo Ireland to John and Mary Kathleen Walsh.
Mary was a woman who believed in the power of family, community, and compassion. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, and great grandmother, always placing the needs of her loved ones above her own. Her nurturing spirit and selflessness were a testament to the love she had for her family. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched and in the love that continues to surround her family. Mary was known for her generosity, her strong will, and her unwavering faith in God.
Mary immigrated to Brooklyn NY from Ireland along with her sister Margaret Walsh at the age of 19 years old. She worked for the New York Telephone Company. Later she met and married her former husband, Thomas D. O'Hare.
Together they had four children who were her pride and joy. They all moved from Brooklyn to the Poconos, Lake Wallenpaupack, PA. Mary and her family were members of Queen of Peace Parish in Hawley, where she taught CCD classes and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.
Mary also was an advocate of healthy living; she received her degree in nutrition. She enjoyed cooking healthy foods and her classic Irish fare, which included Irish Soda Bread, and recipes from her Irish heritage. She was the owner of Mary Margaret's Tea Room in Emmaus, PA for many years. She loved listening to Celtic music and Elvis Presley. Also, Mary was an animal advocate, rescuing animals in need and volunteering at Animals in Distress in Coopersburg, PA. She was an avid gardener, growing her own vegetables in her garden, and knitting shawls for all in need.
Mary is survived by her loving family, Sister, Margaret Breidenstein.
Daughters', Mary K. Fiske, husband Michael, Margaret O'Hare McGinty, husband Bob, Joney O'Hare, husband Charles Hendershot and her son James O'Hare and his wife Theresa. Grandchildren, Meghan, Casey and Ryan McGinty, Marisa Fiske, Thomas Michael Ahearn O'Hare, and cherished her role as Great Grandmother to her Great Granddaughter Marion Nasatka. Her niece Ann Marie Barton and her husband Jim.
She is predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Kathleen Walsh, her brothers, Michael, John James, Vincent Walsh, her sister Kathleen Walsh, and her beloved Grandchildren, Robert Patrick and Katelyn McGinty.
Also remembering near to her heart are her treasured family friends, the McGinty family, the Fiske family and her beloved Yorkie, Spencer.
Over the years we all enjoyed family trips to Ireland, Florida and Cruising.
She will live on in our hearts forever, remembering cherished memories of her loving and kind Irish Spirit!
Rest in Peace with the Angels our Sweet, Loving Mother.
Services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family of Mary O'Hare. Checks may be made payable to her daughter, Mary Fiske and donations may be mailed to Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018. Any donations will be given to a charity/organization that was close to Mary's heart.
