Mary Velekei

Mary Velekei, 92, formerly of Miller Heights, Bethlehem Township, passed away on Wednesday October 5, 2011 at Weatherwood Nursing Home, Weatherly, PA. She was the widow of Julius J. Velekei, Sr., who passed away on August 24, 2006, after 66 years of marriage. Mary was born March 19, 1919, the daughter of the late Paul and Olga Sawastuk Romanick. She worked for many years as a sewing machine operator before retiring. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Miller Heights, a past member of the Sacred Heart Altar Rosary Society, and Autumn Club of Bethlehem Township. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family.

Survivors: Daughter, Judith, wife of Edward Merkel of Palmerton, sons, Robert and wife Jan of Wyomissing, and Julius Jr. and wife Anne Marie of Easton; a brother, Harry Romanick; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, son, Thomas P. Jr., three brothers and three sisters.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, where a viewing will be held on Tuesday October 11th from 9 to 10 a.m. A 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Church, 1st St. Bethlehem Township. Interment will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
