Michael B. Smith

Michael B. Smith, 98, of Bethlehem died on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the Hospice House of the VNA of St. Luke's. He was born October 7, 1910 in Bethlehem, son of the late Michael B. and Mary Nicholas Smith. Michael was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Mildred M. Sergent Smith.

He retired from the Bethlehem Steel Co. in 1972 after 38 years of service as an Operator of the No. 2 Press Forge. Michael was a life member of the United Steelworkers of America Local #2599. After retiring, Michael enjoyed working part-time as a locker desk attendant at the Bethlehem YMCA.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Brother Michael A. Smith C.S.C. "Mickey" of Wilmington, DE; daughter Kathryn "Bonnie" Frederick of Bethlehem; and two grandsons, Kevin Frederick husband of Angie and Scott Frederick husband of Vilma and their daughter Cecilia. Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Anna and brothers, Andrew and Francis.

He was a life member of the Catholic Sokols and St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Beneficial Society.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 29, 2009 from 9:30-10:30 AM at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 11 AM at Holy Infancy Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
