Michael J. Stankovic, 89, of Walnutport, died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg in Bethlehem. He was born February 16, 1918 in Palmerton, the son of the late Joseph and Pauline Stankovic. He was the loving husband of Antoinette A.Beirao Stankovic. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this past January 30th.
Michael worked as a Furnace Tender for New Jersey Zinc Corp. in Palmerton for over 35 years. He retired in 1978. He was a member of St. Nicholas Parish in Berlinsville. He was also a member of Blue Mountain Rod & Gun Club, Slatington Skeet Club and The Copeechan Fish and Game Club of Schnecksville. Michael was also an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr., an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed walking along the Walnutport Canal.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre during the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of four purple hearts.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Antoinette, his daughter, Linda A., wife of Robert Gotzon of Bethlehem; and his grandson, Michael Gotzon of New Tripoli. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Frank, Stephen and Daniel and
his two sisters, Pauline Reese-Palmer and Violet Schaadt.
Services: will be private and under the direction of Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem. There will be a public viewing on Monday, August 27, 2007 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
