Michael J. Stern

Michael Joseph Stern, Jr., 86, of Auburn, PA died on Thursday, February 25, 2016. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Magdelena (Margaret Narlesky) Stern and Michael Joseph Stern, Sr. He was a Bethlehem resident for 79 years, before relocating to Lake Wynonah, Auburn, PA in 2008. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Constance “Connie” nee Farnham.

Mike graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School in 1947, where he lettered in basketball. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a jet engine mechanic and was very proud to be one of the first to work on the F-80 shooting star. He briefly attended Moravian College then worked at Bethlehem Steel as a pyrotechnic analyst before beginning a 27 year career as a clerk with the U .S. Postal Service at the Bethlehem post office and the facility on Postal Road. He retired from the USPS in 1989 as a Quality Control Specialist. For many decades he enjoyed playing cards at his weekly postal pinochle club. He loved working outside on his property in Lower Saucon Township, and in his later years enjoyed relaxing at his lake house, watching TV, traveling and the experiencing the many cruises he took with his wife, Connie.

Survivors: wife, Connie; son, Michael Stern III and wife Judith Seidenberger; daughter, Carol Ann, wife of Joseph Tomko; step son, Christopher Odenwelder; grandson, Bryan Stern; granddaughters, Amanda Stern and Isabel Odenwelder; and his first wife, Anna Mae Shimko. He was predeceased by brother, Robert Stern.

Services: Viewing hours will be held on Monday, February 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem. An 8 p.m. funeral service will follow. Burial will be private.
