Michael Stempo

Michael Stempo, 85, of Bethlehem, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Hospice House of St. Luke's in Lower Saucon Twp. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late John and Katherine Stucksa Stempo. He was the loving husband of the late Angeline C. Catalanotti Stempo who died in 2007. They were married June 14, 1952 at Our Lady of Pompeii Church by Father Pugliese.

Michael graduated from Phillipsburg High School and later from De Forest College in Chicago, IL. He worked as an Electronics Technician for 35 years for the former Western Electric before retiring in 1985.

Michael served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII for six years in the European and Pacific Theatres as a Radioman on the Destroyer, The USS Woolsey. He was a member of the Pioneer's Club and a member of the former Our Lady of Pompeii of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Bethlehem. He also bowled for the National Sokols for twenty years and belonged to the MORA Club.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Michael J. Stempo & his wife Laurie of Bethlehem, daughter, Monica Ryan of Catasauqua; brother, Stephen Stempo of Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.; sister, Catherine Stanley of Easton; and four grandchildren, Amanda, John & Eric Stempo and Kelly Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Jr. and Joseph Stempo and a sister, Anna Stempo.

Services: A Funeral Service will be held, Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church 450 Washington Ave. Bethlehem. Visitation will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
