Minnie Labosky Weiss, R.N. 88, of Bethlehem passed away early Tuesday morning at Holy Family Manor. She and her husband Edward A. Weiss, Jr., celebrated their 65th anniversary on April 22nd, 2011. Born in Excelsior, Northumberland Cty., Pa, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Olesniewicz Labosky.
Minnie was a graduate of Coal Tsp. High School in Shamokin and from the Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing, Allentown in 1944.
She was a charter member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, Bethlehem and sang in the choir and the Resurrection Choir for many years; she also served as an officer for the church Sodality, was a member of the 55 club and had served as a Eucharistic Minister for over 12 years.
Professionally she served as Head Nurse in maternity at Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, Head Nurse in the operating room in Sacred Heart Hospital in Norristown and Coaldale Hospital, Coaldale. She had also served as the Public Health Nurse for Trexler Nursing and as Head Nurse in Psychiatry at the Institute of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
She was very active in the community having served as President of; the Alumni Association of the Sacred Heart School of Nursing, the Catholic Women's Club, the Catholic Nurses Guild of the Lehigh Valley, Northwest Little League auxiliary and the Eggs Original Club.
She served as co-chairman of the Egg shows in Phillipsburg, N.J. and was a representative of the International Egg Art Guild for a number of years. She also served as Assistant District Adminitrator for her husband in little league baseball for 42 years.
Minnie will be lovingly remembered by her husband Edward, sons Edward A. III and his wife Kathleen of Hamilton Tsp., NJ and Stephen and his wife Jenny and their son Erich of Williams Tsp. Also surviving are nephews James and Lewis Labosky, sister-in-law Tillie Labosky and great niece and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter Elicia, brothers Peter, John and Steve Labosky, nephew David Labosky.
Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Minnie's life on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Bethlehem at 10:00AM for her Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers please direct contributions to Mercy Special Learning Center, 830 S. Woodward St., Allentown, PA 18103 where her daughter Elicia attended school.
