N. Wells Gow, Jr., 84, of Bethlehem, died on Monday, January 5, 2015. He was born in Bloomfield, NJ; son of the late Norman Wells Gow, Sr. and Lois (Tice) Gow. Wells is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Betty-Jane (Kolb) Gow.
Wells proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He attended New Jersey Institute of Technology where he earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering and continued his education earning his M.S. in Engineering Management. Wells career moved his family from NJ, to Baltimore, Rochester, NY, Lebanon, PA and finally Bethlehem. He worked for Picatinny Arsenal, Xerox Corp., Cornwall Manor, Dentsply, Bethlehem Steel Corp. and eventually retired from NY Life.
Wells was a very active member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Bethlehem, where he served as former consistory president and was the former finance committee chair. Wells was proud of his Scottish heritage and felt fortunate to travel to the homeland of his ancestors and was also known to wear his favorite kilt for special occasions. He was a member of the Scottish Society of the Lehigh Valley. He was a valued Ombudsman for Northampton County, an active member of the MORA Club and sang in the MORA Chorus. He also volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels. Wells enjoyed traveling, flight and astronomy, being outside in his garden, woodworking, and was a hockey and baseball fan. He loved trains and was an avid golfer.
Wells will be dearly missed by his wife and children. He was predeceased by Betsy Gow Dominy and survived by Allan Gow of Bethlehem, Judy Peffley and her husband Kelly J. of Lebanon, PA, Allison Duffy and her husband Michael of Bethlehem, Twp., Mark Dominy of Apopka, FL, as well as his grandchildren, Shane and Alixandra Peffley and Sydney Duffy.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 10:30-11:30 am at Bethany UCC, 600 W. Market St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A service will follow in the sanctuary at 11:45 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany UCC.
