It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nereida Figueroa, 74, of Bethlehem, PA, who entered eternal rest on October 10, 2024. Born April 22, 1950, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, to the late Antonio and Lydia (Ortiz) Figueroa, Nereida lived a life filled with love, kindness, and generosity.
Known for her optimistic spirit, caring nature, and giving heart, Nereida was a bright light to all who knew her. Her ability to connect with people, her social and outgoing nature, and her kind soul made her a cherished presence in every room. Nereida found joy in life's simple pleasures like listening to her favorite Spanish or Christian music, and she could strike up a conversation with anyone she met.
Nereida's greatest pride was her family, and she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister. Her love and dedication to her family knew no bounds, and she nurtured each relationship with care and warmth. She instilled in her loved ones a strong sense of togetherness, love, and resilience.
Her work ethic was second to none, and she was a source of inspiration to many. For 25 years, she dedicated her talents to Clemente High School in Chicago, where she worked as a teacher's assistant, making a difference in the lives of countless students. She then served as an emergency room intake coordinator at Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago for another 25 years, ensuring patients received the care they needed with compassion and professionalism.
Nereida will be deeply missed by her children,Neftali Marcano, Victor Marcano, Michael Lozada, Jessica Mercado, and Anthony Marcano; her loving sisters, Norma Rivera, Lucy Figueroa-DeLabar, Lilly Figueroa-Murga, and Mildred Figueroa; her nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy. She was preceded in death by her brother, Luis Santiago.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Nereida's life on Friday, October 18, 2024, with a viewing and service from 12-2 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Nereida's memory will forever live in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, laughter, and unwavering love.
