Pape Elizabeth Mercur Cleveland

March 10, 1942 — June 10, 2008

Pape Elizabeth "Pemmie" Mercur Cleveland, 66, of Bethlehem died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in her home after a 5 year long battle with cancer. She and her husband John celebrated their 33rd anniversary this past January.

Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Fritz and Betsy Pape Mercur.

Pemmie graduated from Moravian Seminary in 1960, Sweetbriar College in 1964 and obtained her Masters in International Relations from Lehigh University in 1966.

She spent many years abroad as an analyst for the US Army Southern European Projects Unit, working at the US Embassy in Rome, where she met her husband to be, John.

She was a longtime member of the Junior League, both in Washington D.C and in Bethlehem. She was a lover of tennis, antiques, travel, and all things Italy.

Along with her husband, John, Pemmie is survived by 2 daughters, Kaycee, wife of Adam Palko and mother of 1 month old son, Logan Gene of Pittsburgh and Carolyn of Washington D.C. She is also survived by her loyal Scottie dog, Max.

Funeral services will be at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem on Saturday, June 14 at 11AM. Friends may call from 10AM - 11AM.

Interment will follow at Nisky Hill Cemetery
