Patricia K. Phelan

June 26, 1925 — October 28, 2006

Patricia K. Phelan, 81, of Allentown, died on Saturday Oct. 28, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

She was born in Williston, N.D., the daughter of the late

Alexander and Marion Cortright Knox.

Pat graduated from Falls Church High School and attended classes at George Washington University.

During WWII, she worked in Hawaii for the armed services. Pat met her husband Warren Phelan of Great Falls, Mont., while both working in Washington, D.C., and they married there in 1953.

Warren was transferred with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to Philadelphia, and they had their first farm in Sellersville, Pa.

Pat worked until the birth of her first child Bette, in 1957, and her second child, Jim in 1961. In 1968, the family moved to a farm outside Quakertown, Pa.

Pat was active with the Deep Run Presbyterian Church, served as president of Perkasie Women?s Club, and performed innumerous stage plays at the Dutch Country Playhouse. She was an avid reader, gardener, bridge player, and she loved movies and crossword puzzles.

Pat received a bachelor?s degree in social work from Temple University, and graduated magna cum laude with a master?s degree in social work from Temple University in 1980.

She was employed as a supervisor for the Bucks County Children and Youth Agency in Doylestown for 15 years. Pat retired at age 70, and she and her husband traveled throughout Europe, North Africa, Russian and the Middle East. Warren passed away in 1997 at the age of 87.

Pat moved to Westminster Village in 2003, with her cat Simon. She is survived by her daughter, Bette of Bethlehem; son Jim and his

wife Susan, and their daughter, Jillian of Macungie.

Pat is also survived by her sister Luellyn Withrow of Ogden, Utah; brother and sister-in-law, William and Eleanor Knox of Palos Verdes, CA; and sisters-in-law, Joyce Griswold of Seattle and Eileen Brensdahl of Columbus, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her sister Bette Ann.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Irish Meeting House at Deep

RunPresbyterian Church, Route 113 & Elephant Road, Bedminster, Pa. 18944, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer Association or the American Lung Association.

Internment will be later at Arlington National Cemetery.
