Paul M. Marcincin

Paul M. Marcincin, 88, of Bethlehem, died on Monday, October 26, 2009.

He was born June 22, 1921 in Bethlehem, the son of the late Anthony and Barbara Cmorey Marcincin.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth R. Racho Marcincin.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII.

Paul was a 1948 graduate of Moravian College and later earned his Master's Degree from Lehigh University.

He retired from the Bethlehem Area School District a school teacher after 36 years of service. Paul taught 27 of those years at Northeast Middle School.

Paul was the Basketball Coach at Moravian College for 24 years and is fondly known as "Mo-Mo" by the greyhound faithful for his connection to the college.

He enjoyed politics and proudly served the community as a member of City Council for 12 years. Later, Paul served as the 7th Mayor of Bethlehem from 1978 to 1987 and served as acting Mayor from 1997-1998. Paul was essential in making Musikfest possible for Bethlehem. One of his fondest memories was working very closely with former first lady, Rosalynn Carter, on a project for the South Terrace section of Bethlehem.

He was a parishioner of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bethlehem; and was a member of the Catholic Sokols, Goodfellows and Regularfellows.

Paul will be lovingly remembered by his children, Dr. Robert P. Marcincin and his wife Heather; Dr. Terry L. Marcincin and his wife Diane; Dr. Paul G. Marcincin and Dr. MaryBeth Marcincin-Lawless and her husband Jim all of Bethlehem. He will also be missed by his 10 grandchildren, Corry, Meredith, Mallory, Sarah, Douglas, Matthew, Eliza, Shea, Zach and Alec.

He was also predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Sucansky, Dorothy Wasco and Elizabeth Marcincin and brothers, Felix, Joseph, John, Frank, and Philip Marcincin.

Paul will be remembered for his service to his community, his devotion to his wife and his love for his family.

The family will receive friends at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 from 5-8 PM and again on Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 8-9:15 AM at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne's Catholic Church 450 Washington Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 10 AM.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Paul Marcincin Fund at Moravian College c/o Development Office 1200 Main St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 and/ or to the church.

Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
