Peter E. Schmid

Peter Ernest Schmid, 74 years old, of Bethlehem, son of the late Peter and Theresa Crenko Schmid graced this earth with his amazing presence on April 1, 1934 and was embraced by God to be taken home on September 1, 2008 from St. Luke's Hospital courtesy of his angel's wings.

Peter was an altar boy and boy scout at St. John Capistrano School and graduated from Bethlehem Vocational Technical School in 1953. He was the lead singer in a vocal group in the mid 1950's; he had such a gift for harmony. He was employed by the City of Bethlehem for 42 years and retired as Greenskeeper Superintendent in 1996. Peter was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, in Bethlehem.

Besides his beautiful wife of 49 years, his four devoted children and four adoring grandchildren, he loved his 1957 gold Oldsmobile, 1950's Doo Wops and R&B music. He had a zest for life that emanated in everything he did, including his rhythm and polish on the dance floor, his infectous sense of humor, his optimistic attitude and his compassion for humanity.

Peter will be fondly remembered as a selfless loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched in his eloquent, unforgettable way. The world will be a little overcast without Peter's presence but heaven will shine for acquiring an angel.

Survivors: In addition to his wife, Shirley A. Davis Schmid, he is survived by his son, Peter E. Schmid, III, daughters; Deborah and husband Randall, Kimberly and Sarah Schmid all of Bethlehem. Peter is also survived by his four grandchildren; Jarrod, Meagan, Justin and Morgan of Bethlehem.

Services: A viewing will be held on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 9:30-11:00 AM, followed by a service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
