Peter Mcgee, Jr.

July 17, 1957 — July 20, 2018

Peter McGee, Jr., 61, of Northampton and formerly of High Point and Greensboro, NC, passed away on July 20, 2018. He was born in Bethlehem on July 17, 1957; son of Peter McGee and the late Mary (Schubert) McGee.

Pete graduated in 1976 from Liberty High School. He attended Kutztown State College from 1976-1981 and again in 1986-2002, receiving a BS in Telecommunications and then a BS in Computer Science. He also attended Lehigh Universitys College of Business and Economics where he obtained his MBA and Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management. He was Nationally Certified in Project Management through the Project Management Institute and was a member of the North Carolina Chapter.

In 1988, he began working for Mack Truck (Allentown) in Information Technology. He studied French and was certified to teach the language. From 1999 to 2002 he accepted a position with Mack Trucks Parent Company Renault VI in Leon, France. He started the American Club for his Ex Patriot colleagues. Prior to leaving the country he spent 4 weeks studying under internationally known French Chef Paul Bocuse. He enjoyed France so much he hoped to retire there.

After returning to the United States from France, he accepted a position with Renault VIs new parent company, Volvo. He moved to Greensboro, NC where he was an IT Project Manager for Volvo IT North America.

He was an avid cyclist and competed at the Velodrome with the Mack Corporate Team; he also ran half marathons and was working to become a master swimmer. He enjoyed working out at the gym, paragliding and skiing in the Alps.

He was known by all for his kindness, humility, and wonderful smile.

He will be lovingly remembered by his father, Peter; sister Michele (Micki) Lerch of Northampton; three brothers, Kevin of Palmerton, Lawrence and his wife Susan of Muncy, and William and his wife Patricia of Northampton, and his beloved nephews and nieces; Jason Lerch of College Hill, Alison (Lerch) Bruce of Nazareth, Eric McGee of Allentown, Magdalena (McGee) Berchtold of York, Ava McGee of Muncy, William McGee of Philadelphia, Benjamin McGee of Philadelphia, and his great nephews and nieces; Piper, Quade and Dax Lerch of College Hill, Emily and Jared Filchner of Nazareth. He was preceded in death by his nephew, L. Patrick McGee Jr., and his niece, Caitlyn E. McGee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 27 at 9:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd., Bethlehem. Viewing hours will be held on Thursday, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem. Burial will follow the mass at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
