Phillip A. Summers

November 5, 1937 — July 26, 2014

Phillip A. Summers, 76, of Bethlehem, PA died peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with leukemia on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at St. Lukes Hospital in Fountain Hill. Born November 5, 1937 in Altoona, PA he was the son of the late C. Jane (Keener) and Chilton A. Summers. Phil was married to Lucy E. “Dolly” (Palumbo) Summers with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage this past June 6th. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on June 30, 1975 after 20 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force he went on to complete a degree in Computer Science from Northampton Community College. Phil worked at Burns Computing Services, Merchants Bank and EDS. He retired from EDS in 1999. He was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church in Bethlehem. Phil was a member of the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council 313 where he was a 3rd Degree Knight. He was also a member of the Lehigh Valley New Vision TelecomPioneers, the American Legion, Naus Association, NRA and the 55+ club at Notre Dame. Phil served on the board at Bethlehem Catholic Band Parents Association from 1980-1982. Phil enjoyed reading, sports especially golf and football, gardening, fishing, cars, loved going to the beach but most of all he loved the time he spent with his family and friends. Phil was a kind and generous person and a friend to all. To leave this world so loved is quite a tribute to him.

In addition to his wife, Phil is survived by his daughters, Lynn A. and husband Jack Greene of Bethlehem; and Susan M. and husband Dennis Roesser of Whitehall; sister, Molly and husband Dr. Caesar Ordua of Cape Canaveral, Florida; his granddaughters, whom he adored, Brooke C. Campbell and Courtney E. Campbell; and all of his extended family.

Viewings will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home again on Monday, August 4th from 10:45 am to 11:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18018 at 12:30 pm. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Phillips name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 555 North Lane Conshohocken, PA 19428 or to Notre Dame Catholic Church in Bethlehem.
