Philomena Abd-El-Bary

Philomena Abd-El-Bary, of Bethlehem, died on Friday, December 29, 2017. She was born in Roseto, PA; daughter of the late Anthony and Giovina (Ruggierio) Tarole. Philomena was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Murnin in 1957 and her husband, Mahmoud Adb-El-Bary in 1993.

Philomena was a graduate of Liberty High School. In her youth, she was a professional dancer which sparked her interest in the arts. She enjoyed music, dancing and fine arts. Philomena was a proud member of the Bethlehem Palette Club and was an avid reader. She authored two books, including “Portrait of Kuwait”, which was penned while living in Kuwait. Philomena was a tenacious card player and enjoyed her time with her senior group. In the early days of the Live Bethlehem Christmas Pageant, Philomena assisted in making costumes. Philomena was a parishioner of St. Annes Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her loving and caring spirit, her selfless attitude towards life, and her impeccable style.

Philomena will be dearly missed by her son, William Murnin and wife, Renee and daughter, Nancy Cassidy and husband, John all of Bethlehem; her daughter-in-law, Susan Murnin; sister, Carmela Tarole; eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren; five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Anthony E. Murnin; sisters, Dolores Malpedo and Elizabeth Zito and brother, Anthony Tarole.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 and again on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Annes Catholic Church, 450 E. Washington Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
