Richard Alfred Check

Richard Alfred Check, Sr. 85, of Bethlehem, died on Saturday November 3, 2018. He was born January 31, 1933 in Bethlehem; son of the late Michael Check and Agnes (Sirochy) Check. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Mathilda Irene (Berry) Check in 1979.

Richard was a graduate of Liberty High School. He served as a medic in the US Army. Richard was very proud that he and many family members worked at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. He retired as a rigger after over 43 years of service. Later, he was very active with the Steelworkers Archives and can be seen on many documentaries about the Bethlehem Steel. Richard was a parishioner of Incarnation of Our Lord Parish and he was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols.

He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Kathleen Ann Rosar and her husband, Robert; son, Richard Alfred Check, Jr. and his wife, Joanne; daughter-in-law, Patricia Check, wife of the late Michael John Check all of Hellertown; sisters, Irene, wife of John Petraglia of North Carolina and Sophia, wife of Maurice Kuritz of Fountain Hill; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Richard was also predeceased by his 8 brothers and 2 sisters.

A visitation will be held on Thursday November 8, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Friday November 9, 2018 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. on Friday November 9, 2018 at Incarnation of Our Lord Parish, 617 Pierce St. Bethlehem, PA 18015. Interment will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
